2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93 BY SENATOR LONG A RESOLUTION To commend Maxine Roge' Johnson on fifty years of service to Northwestern State University of Louisiana. WHEREAS, Maxine Roge' Johnson has dedicated her life to providing citizens access to better healthcare by educating generations of nursing professionals during her distinguished fifty-year career with Northwestern State University of Louisiana (NSU); and WHEREAS, after graduating from Cloutierville High School in Cloutierville, Louisiana, in 1958, she received a bachelor of nursing from NSU in 1962, and then continued her education at the University of Maryland, where she received a masters of science in nursing in 1964; and WHEREAS, when her education was complete, she entered the healthcare profession as a staff nurse in the perinatal unit at the Baton Rouge General Hospital, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she served until 1964, at which time she began her illustrious career with NSU as an instructor/assistant professor of nursing; and WHEREAS, other than a brief tenure as the director of the practical nursing program at Northwest Mississippi Junior College in Oxford, Mississippi, from 1970-1971, she would dedicate her entire career to her alma mater, NSU, where over the years she would serve in a variety of positions, including coordinator of instructional activities, assistant/associate professor of nursing, department head of undergraduate studies in nursing, and currently the director/associate director for grants and planning; and WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson's talents, skills, and dedication to her students and school have earned her many professional awards and honors, including the J. Dudley Talbot MD Endowed Professorship in Nursing, the Robert Huie Endowed Professorship in Nursing, the Excellence in Teaching Award for the College of Nursing at NSU, and the Shreveport District Nurses Association Outstanding Professional Achievement Award; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 93 ENROLLED WHEREAS, she has been inducted into the NSU Long Purple Line Hall of Distinction, and the Louisiana Nurses Association Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, she is also a dedicated patriot and has served the brave men and women of the armed forces for twenty-eight years as a nurse in the United States Army, and has earned among other honors the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Armed Services Ribbon; and WHEREAS, during her many years of service, Maxine Roge' Johnson has demonstrated the kind of leadership and distinction that is to be applauded, and she has shone brightly as an example to the many men and women who have known her as teacher, administrator, colleague, and friend. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Maxine Roge' Johnson on her fifty years of service to Northwestern State University of Louisiana and for her tireless commitment to the training of nurses and healthcare workers in the state.
