2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 96 BY SENATOR RISER A RESOLUTION To designate May 10 through May 16, 2015, as "Police Week" in the state of Louisiana. WHEREAS, members of law enforcement agencies provide a vital public service with essential roles in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, there are approximately nine hundred thousand law enforcement officers serving their communities across the United States; and WHEREAS, police and peace officers protect citizens twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week; and WHEREAS, nearly sixty thousand assaults against law enforcement officers are reported annually, resulting in approximately sixteen thousand injuries; and WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, more than twenty thousand law enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, the names of fallen public servants are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers killed in the line of duty will be honored during the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund 27th Annual Candlelight Vigil, on the evening of May 13, 2015; and WHEREAS, May 15, 2015, is designated as Peace Officers Memorial Day, in honor of all fallen officers and their families, the United States flag is flown at half-staff in many locations throughout our great nation; and WHEREAS, law enforcement officers are guardians of life and property, defenders of individual rights, warriors in the war against crime, and they merit sincere commendations for their steadfast commitment to secure and preserve the welfare and safety of their fellow citizens. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 96 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 10 through May 16, 2015, as "Police Week" in the state of Louisiana, and commends the state's law enforcement officers for their noble and exemplary accomplishments, and does hereby express enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor and pride they bring to Louisiana citizens.
