A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of State Representative Ronnie Edwards.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that members of the
Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of State Representative Ronnie Edwards
on February 24, 2016, after a courageous multi-year battle with pancreatic cancer, at age
sixty-three; and
WHEREAS, she was a devout Christian, wife of forty-five years to Oliver Edwards,
mother of two adult children, and grandmother to three; and
WHEREAS, during her battle with cancer, Representative Edwards never ceased to
conduct herself with dignity, strength, and compassion, and never wavered in her deep and
abiding faith; and

WHEREAS, Representative Edwards, a Democrat, was recently sworn into the
Louisiana Legislature after serving two terms as a member of the Baton Rouge Metro
Council; and
WHEREAS, while elected to her seat representing District 29 consisting of a portion
of East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes in November 2015 and sworn in on
January 11, 2016, because of her health, she was never able to return to the State Capitol to
fulfill her duties; and
WHEREAS, Ronnie Edwards also worked in housing for the Urban Restoration
Enhancement Corporation; and
WHEREAS, she was well known for her passion for affordable housing and her
warm demeanor; and
WHEREAS, Representative Ronnie Edwards will be long remembered as a very
spiritual, quiet-spoken, and very gentle and kind person as well as for her commitment and
tireless effort to improve her community and this state; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Representative Ronnie Edwards has left a
tremendous void in her community, her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts
of all who knew and loved her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
extend sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of State Representative Ronnie
Edwards, recognize and record for posterity her exceptional accomplishments and singular
contributions, and extend appreciation for the pride and honor that she brought to her family,
friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Oliver Edwards, husband of Ronnie Edwards.
