SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9

A RESOLUTION
To commend Annie Beard on her achievements and on being named the 2015 Gymnast of
the Year by International Gymnast Magazine.
WHEREAS, Alexandria, Louisiana, native and junior Olympic gymnast Annie Beard
gave up a normal childhood to follow her dream of competing as an elite gymnast; and
WHEREAS, Annie has been a gymnast since she was two years old and trains six
days a week, five hours a day; and
WHEREAS, the eleven-year-old gymnast was selected by International Gymnast
Magazine out of more than seventeen thousand girls as the 2015 Gymnast of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the factors considered during the selection process include scores from
state, regional, and national meets; and
WHEREAS, Annie and her mother, Jennifer, moved to Texas to train toward her goal
of becoming an elite gymnast while her father, Ronnie, and her sister, Caroline, remained
in Alexandria; and
WHEREAS, during the current season which began in December 2015 and ends in
May 2016, Annie is competing as a level ten gymnast; and
WHEREAS, following the current season, she will begin intense training to qualify
to train as an elite gymnast in January 2017; and
WHEREAS, Annie will then concentrate her efforts toward becoming a member of
the national team; and
WHEREAS, Annie is a role model for other students and is worthy of emulation and
public recognition, and is a source of pride for her parents, Ronnie and Jennifer Beard, her
sister, Caroline, and her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, she deserves to be honored and respected for her outstanding
achievements and her willingness to make sacrifices at the tender age of eleven years old in
order to attain her goals.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Annie Beard on being named the 2015 Gymnast of
the Year by International Gymnast Magazine; does hereby record for posterity the pride and
honor that she brings to her family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana; and does
hereby extend best wishes on her future endeavors and gymnastic competitions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Annie Beard.
