COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc., upon its eightieth anniversary
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., upon its
3 eightieth anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is located
5at 725 North Foster Drive in Baton Rouge; and
6 WHEREAS, J. Frank Smith, John H. Theus, T.J. Jordan, Clifton Purnell, H. Beecher
7Hicks, and William Harlow came together on May 8, 1936, in Baton Rouge to form the
8Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and
9 WHEREAS, Brother J. Frank Smith served as the first basileus of the newly formed
10chapter; and
11 WHEREAS, in 1944, the chapter consisted of twenty-four active brothers who
12strived to carry out the programs of the fraternity, as well as local programs of the chapter
13including the annual dance; and
14 WHEREAS, members of the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
15Inc., promote civic and educational concerns through community involvement; their main
16emphasis is the Reading is Fundamental program which prepares and motivates children to
17read books provided by the chapter; and
18 WHEREAS, Lambda Alpha helps support Beta Sigma, the undergraduate chapter at
19Southern University in Baton Rouge; and
20 WHEREAS, the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., merits a
21special measure of commendation upon the celebration of its eightieth anniversary.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi
3Phi Fraternity, Inc., upon the celebration of its eightieth anniversary and does hereby express
4gratitude to Lambda Alpha for the service of its members toward promoting civic and
5educational concerns through community involvement.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
7to the basileus of the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
