HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 22

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., upon its
eightieth anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is located
at 725 North Foster Drive in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, J. Frank Smith, John H. Theus, T.J. Jordan, Clifton Purnell, H. Beecher
Hicks, and William Harlow came together on May 8, 1936, in Baton Rouge to form the
Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Brother J. Frank Smith served as the first basileus of the newly formed
chapter; and
WHEREAS, in 1944, the chapter consisted of twenty-four active brothers who
strived to carry out the programs of the fraternity, as well as local programs of the chapter
including the annual dance; and
WHEREAS, members of the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc., promote civic and educational concerns through community involvement; their main
emphasis is the Reading is Fundamental program which prepares and motivates children to
read books provided by the chapter; and
WHEREAS, Lambda Alpha helps support Beta Sigma, the undergraduate chapter at
Southern University in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., merits a
special measure of commendation upon the celebration of its eightieth anniversary.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi
Phi Fraternity, Inc., upon the celebration of its eightieth anniversary and does hereby express
gratitude to Lambda Alpha for the service of its members toward promoting civic and
educational concerns through community involvement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the basileus of the Lambda Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
