SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 10

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend John W. Wright, certified public accountant, upon the occasion of his
retirement after a more than forty-year career in accounting.
WHEREAS, John Wright was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and at the age of eight,
he moved with his family to make a new home in Lafayette, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, John Wright spent the remainder of his childhood in Lafayette where
he attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Lafayette High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright graduated from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in
accounting and after graduation he was employed as a federal agent with the Internal
Revenue Service for the next five years; and
WHEREAS, upon his return to Lafayette after working for the Internal Revenue
Service, John Wright became one of the founding partners of the accounting firm Wright,
Moore, DeHart, Dupuis and Hutchinson, LLC, what has today become the largest and one
of the most respected accounting firms in the Acadiana region; and
WHEREAS, with his experience dealing with the Internal Revenue Service, Mr.
Wright came to the private practice of accounting with considerable expertise in all aspects
of federal income taxes and additional expertise in stockholder disputes, business
management decisions, and the valuation of businesses; and
WHEREAS, additionally, John Wright worked in aspects of family financial issues
including the division of marital assets and community property settlements and he has often
been called upon to testify in court as an expert in accounting relative to domestic issues; and
WHEREAS, beyond his work at his accounting firm, Mr. Wright has been an active
member of his profession and is currently a member of the Society of Louisiana Certified
Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and

WHEREAS, over the years of his professional practice, John Wright has served as
chairman of the consultation services committee and the Louisiana Tax Conference, and as
a member of the Taxation Committee of the Society of Louisiana Certified Public
Accountants; and
WHEREAS, throughout his adult years, John Wright has remained active in civic
organizations, including serving as a member of the University of Louisiana Lafayette
Alumni Association, is currently a member of the board of trustees of the University of
Louisiana Lafayette Foundation, was a former chairman of the United Way of Acadiana, and
he has served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Nature Conservancy of Louisiana;
and
WHEREAS, currently, Mr. Wright is a member of the following: the Mardi Gras
organizations of the Krewe of Gabriel and the Krewe of Bonaparte, Ducks Unlimited, the
Coastal Conservation Association, and St. Pius Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, John Wright takes great pleasure in his large, loving family, including
wife Donna, children Jonathan and Elizabeth, and granddaughter London, as well as stepsons
Stephen and Kevin and their three children; and
WHEREAS, John Wright has served his family, his accounting firm, his profession,
his country, his church, and his community throughout a rewarding more than forty-year
career as a certified public accountant.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend John W. Wright, certified public accountant, upon the occasion of his retirement
after a more than forty-year career in accounting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
John W. Wright.
