SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 8

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of
Norris Joseph Leger.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana
learned of the death of Norris Joseph Leger on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the age of
ninety-two; and
WHEREAS, Norris Joseph Leger was born in Cankton, lived and worked in
Opelousas for many years, and later retired to Scott; and 
WHEREAS, he was a veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served as
Seaman First Class in the global theater of World War II sailing around the world several
times on six different Liberty Ships bringing munitions and supplies to soldiers fighting the
war; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Leger was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, a
troop master with the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the Elks Club; and
WHEREAS, an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing,
camping, and cooking; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Leger is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Mildred; his
children, Ronald Leger, Donald Leger, Gerald Leger, Kenneth Leger, Andrew Leger,
Cathy Carriere, and Mary Richard; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great-
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, he was a gentleman who was admired by all whose lives he touched,
leaves behind a rich and unique legacy, and is greatly missed; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of its communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like
Norris Joseph Leger; and
WHEREAS, although the death of Norris Joseph Leger has left a tremendous void
in his community, his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and
loved him.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Norris Joseph Leger and extends
enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he will forever bring to his
community, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Norris Joseph Leger.
