HLS 16RS-2123 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 1113 BY REPRESENTATIVE FRANKLIN TRANSPORTATION: Authorizes the Department of Transportation and Development to erect signs along a state highway where a church is located indicating parking is permitted during worship service 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 48:277, relative to erecting signs indicating the location of 3 churches; to erect signs indicating parking is permitted during worship; to provide 4 for points for location, size, and design of such signs; and to provide for related 5 matters. 6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 48:277 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง277. Signs in advance of driveways for churches 9 A. The department may erect signs indicating the location of churches 10 located along state highways. The points for location of such signs shall be 11 determined by the traffic engineer of the highway district in which the church is 12 located. The signs shall conform to a standard size and design prepared by the 13 department. 14 B. Along a state highway where a church is located, the department may 15 erect signs indicating parking is permitted during worship service. The points for 16 location, size, and design of such signs shall be determined in accordance with 17 Subsection A of this Section. Present law authorizes the department to erect signs indicating the location of churches located along state highways. Present law provides that the points for location of such signs will be determined by the traffic engineer of the highway district in which the church is located. Provides that the signs shall conform to a standard size and design prepared by the department. Proposed law retains present law and authorizes the department to erect signs along state highways where a church is located indicating that parking is permitted during worship service.
