TRANSPORTATION DEPT: Prohibits state monies from being used to pay for state
highway designations in honor or memory of a person or event
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 48:191.1, relative to state highway designations in memory or honor of a
3 person or event; to prohibit the use of state monies for certain highway designations;
4 to provide relative to the use of local funds for such signage; and to provide for
5 related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 48:191.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง191.1. State funding prohibition; state highway designations
9 The Department of Transportation and Development or its contractors shall
10 not utilize state monies to erect or maintain signage indicating state highway
11 designations in honor or memory of a person or event. Nothing in this Section shall
12 prohibit the department from receiving assistance, in monies or in kind, from a
13 governing authority seeking to erect or maintain such signage.

Proposed law prohibits state monies from being utilized to pay for the erecting and
maintenance of signage indicating state highway designations in honor or in memory of a
person or event.
Proposed law specifies that nothing in proposed law prevents the department from receiving
assistance, in monies or in kind, from governing authorities seeking to erect or maintain such
signage.
