1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 47:463.111(A) and (B) and to enact R.S. 47:463.111(E), relative
3 to special prestige license plates issued to commissioned police officers; to provide
4 for changes to the eligibility requirements for a commissioned police officer special
5 prestige license plate; to require employing law enforcement agencies undertake
6 certain actions when a person who has been issued a commissioned police officer
7 special prestige license plate is terminated or resigns; and to provide for related
8 matters.
9 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
10 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.111(A) and (B) are hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.
11 47:463.111(E) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
12 ยง463.111. Special prestige license plates; commissioned police officer
13 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
14 design and establish a special prestige license plate for active commissioned police
15 officers, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such plate. The
16 license plate shall be restricted to passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans, and
17 recreational vehicles.
18 B. Each person who applies for the issuance or renewal of the prestige
19 license plate shall present to the secretary proof of prior or active commission in a
20 law enforcement agency for at least two consecutive years. the following to the
21 secretary in order to qualify for the plate:

1 (1) A statement on letterhead from the chief official of the employing law
2 enforcement agency stating that the applicant has an active commission in that law
3 enforcement agency at the time of application and has held such commission for at
4 least two consecutive years.
5 (2) Proof of Police Officer Standards Training completion.

7 E. Upon resignation or termination of a commissioned police officer who has
8 been issued a special prestige license plate pursuant to this Section, the chief official
9 of the employing law enforcement agency from which the person resigned from or
10 was terminated by shall provide the secretary a written statement on his letterhead
11 notifying the secretary of such termination or resignation.
