HOUSE BILL NO. 148

HEALTH/DISEASE CONTROL:  Requires biannual rabies vaccinations in animals
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1269.3, relative to rabies vaccinations; to require biannual
3 rabies vaccinations in animals; and to provide for related matters.
4Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1.  R.S. 40:1269.3 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
6 ยง1269.3.  Authority to enact regulations for control of rabies
7	The Department of Health and Hospitals shall enact in the state sanitary code
8 all necessary provisions concerning the requirements for the control of rabies in
9 animals, including biannual rabies vaccinations, the authority of parishes and
10 municipalities to enact local ordinances, the report of incidence of the disease and
11 the enactment of enforcement provisions.

Abstract:  Requires the Dept. of Health and Hospitals to add a provision to the state sanitary
code providing for biannual rabies vaccinations for animals.
Present law requires the Dept. of Health and Hospitals (department) to enact in the sanitary
code all necessary provisions concerning the requirements for the control of rabies in
animals.
Proposed law adds biannual rabies vaccinations to the provisions that the department must
enact in the sanitary code concerning the requirements for the control of rabies in animals.
