STATE SYMBOL: Provides that the Gulf Fritillary butterfly, also referred to as the passion
butterfly, shall be the official state butterfly
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 49:164.1, relative to state symbols; to provide that the Gulf Fritillary butterfly
3 (Agraulis vanillae) shall be the official state butterfly; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 49:164.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง164.1. State butterfly
8 There shall be an official state butterfly. The Gulf Fritillary butterfly, or
9 passion butterfly (Agraulis vanillae), is the official state butterfly. The use of the
10 Gulf Fritillary butterfly on official documents of the state along with the insignia of
11 the state is hereby authorized.

Proposed law provides that the state of La. shall have an official state butterfly and that
official state butterfly shall be the Gulf Fritillary butterfly, or passion butterfly (Agraulis
vanillae). Authorizes its use along with the insignia of the state.
