Present law provides the protection of student information by public schools. Present law provides that no official or employee of a local public school system shall provide personally identifiable student information to any member of the school board or to any other person or public or private entity. Present law further provides that such an official or employee may, in accordance with applicable state and federal law, provide certain information in certain circumstances. Proposed law authorizes the provision of student information in a health or safety emergency; otherwise retains present law.
