HOUSE BILL NO. 758
BY REPRESENTATIVE PUGH
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 32:1306(C)(6), relative to school bus inspection fees; to increase the school
3 bus inspection fee; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 32:1306(C)(6) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง1306.  Operation of official inspection stations

9	C.(1)(a)  A charge or fee shall be charged for each certificate of inspection
10 and approval issued, as provided in this Subsection.

12	(6)(a)  The charge or fee for the inspection of student transportation vehicles
13 which are required to be inspected under LAC 28:CXIII.701(A)(3) shall be twenty
14 dollars.  No charges or fees other than the twenty-dollar fee shall be charged for a
15 student transportation vehicle inspection.  Of the twenty-dollar fee, the motor vehicle
16 inspection station operator who performs this inspection shall retain fourteen dollars
17 and seventy-five cents; one dollar and twenty-five cents shall be transferred to the
18 office of motor vehicles for expenses associated with motor vehicle and financial
19 responsibility programs; and four dollars shall be transferred to the office of state
20 police for use in traffic law enforcement.
21	(b)  The adjustment of headlights shall be included in the inspection at no
22 additional cost to the owner or operator of the school bus being inspected.
23	(c)  The Legislature of Louisiana hereby declares that a student transportation
24 vehicle inspection is much more extensive than the inspection required of other

1 motor vehicles and that the increase in the fee or charge for the inspection of student
2 transportation vehicles is based on the difference in these types of inspections.

4 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective on January 1, 2017.
