HIGHER EDUCATION: Provides relative to reimbursement to public postsecondary
education institutions for dual enrollment programs and remedial education courses
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 17:3137(E) and 3351.21, relative to public postsecondary education
3 institutions; to provide that public postsecondary education institutions shall be
4 reimbursed for dual enrollment programs and remedial education courses under
5 certain circumstances; to provide for reimbursements by the state Department of
6 Education and local public school governing authorities; to provide relative to the
7 amount of the reimbursements; and to provide for related matters.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1. R.S. 17:3137(E) and 3351.21 are hereby enacted to read as follows:
10 §3137. Dual enrollment program; legislative findings; eligible participants;
11 reimbursement

13 E. A postsecondary education institution offering coursework creditable
14 toward a career certificate or an associate or baccalaureate degree to a student
15 attending a Louisiana public high school pursuant to Subsection B of this Section
16 shall be reimbursed by the state Department of Education or the local public school
17 governing authority, as applicable, in an amount equivalent to the tuition charged by
18 the postsecondary education institution to students who are residents of Louisiana.

1 §3351.21. Remedial education courses; reimbursement
2 A local public school governing authority shall reimburse a postsecondary
3 education institution that offers a remedial education course to a student who
4 graduated from a high school under its jurisdiction. The reimbursement amount shall
5 be equivalent to the tuition charged for the course to students who are residents of
6 Louisiana.

Abstract: Requires that public postsecondary education institutions be reimbursed for
certain dual enrollment programs and remedial courses.
Proposed law provides that public postsecondary education institutions shall be reimbursed
for certain dual enrollment programs and remedial courses, as follows:
(1)A public postsecondary education institution offering coursework creditable toward
a career certificate or an associate or baccalaureate degree to a student attending a
La. public high school pursuant to present law and relative to dual enrollment
programs shall be reimbursed by the state Dept. of Education or the local public
school governing authority, as applicable, in an amount equivalent to the tuition
charged by the postsecondary education institution to students who are residents of
La.
(2)A local public school governing authority shall reimburse a postsecondary education
institution that offers a remedial education course to a student who graduated from
a high school under its jurisdiction. The reimbursement amount shall be equivalent
to the tuition charged for the course to students who are residents of La.
