ENROLLED ACT No. 673 2016 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 888 BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE 1 AN ACT 2 To amend and reenact R.S. 47:505(B)(2), relative to license plates; to modify the notice 3 requirement for canceled license plates applicable to dealers who resell trade-in 4 vehicles; to extend the notice requirement for canceled license plates for such dealers 5 to leased vehicles; and to provide for related matters. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 47:505(B)(2) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง505. Number plates 9 * * * 10 B. 11 * * * 12 (2) Any dealer of motor vehicles who receives a lease return or a previously 13 owned vehicle with the intention of reselling such vehicle shall remove the license 14 or number plate from such vehicle before resale. After the dealer so removes the 15 plate, he shall execute an affidavit submit electronic notification to the Department 16 of Public Safety and Corrections attesting to that fact and attach said affidavit to the 17 title and registration., which states he has received the vehicle, removed the license 18 or number plate from such vehicle, and intends to resell the vehicle. The dealer shall 19 attach the title and registration to the electronic notification. He shall electronically 20 notify the secretary on a monthly report listing of all plates so removed and 21 destroyed. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections, upon receipt of the 22 electronic notification of a transfer on such vehicle accompanied by the required 23 affidavit, shall issue a new plate to the new owner in the same manner as if the Page 1 of 2 CODING: Words in struck through type are deletions from existing law; words underscored are additions.
