HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 85
BY REPRESENTATIVES GLOVER, COX, CARMODY, MIKE JOHNSON,
SEABAUGH, NORTON, JENKINS, AND BAGLEY
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To express the condolences of the members of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death
of Clarence "Cat Daddy" Spurs of Shreveport.
WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate were
saddened to learn that iconic Shreveport restauranteur, radio personality, business owner,
and entrepreneur Clarence "Cat Daddy" Spurs left this life on April 14, 2016, and began his
eternal journey in the heavens; and
WHEREAS, known as the king of nighttime radio, Cat Daddy used his raspy, soulful
voice to host old school jams on KDKS 102.1 FM in Shreveport to the delight of baby
boomers and millennials alike; and
WHEREAS, Cat Daddy's Old School Café was Clarence Spurs' soul food restaurant
in the Mooretown neighborhood of Shreveport, and customers were comforted by both the
delicious food and the kind, humble spirit of the host, who attracted people of all walks of
life; and
WHEREAS, called a trailblazer, an innovator, and a child of God by community
leaders, Clarence Spurs was also considered a good father and family man; coworkers and
staff members regarded him as a brother; and
WHEREAS, family, friends, coworkers, customers, and the radio audience of Cat
Daddy will miss his unique personality and presence, but all who knew and loved him will
forever remember the positive impact of his gifts and the wonderful times shared with
Clarence Spurs.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 
express deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Clarence
"Cat Daddy" Spurs in this time of mourning and does hereby offer prayers for peace and
hopes for Heaven-sent comfort.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Clarence Spurs.
