HLS 16RS-3286 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 92 BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLMOTT AND SENATOR GARY SMI TH COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., upon the celebration of his one hundredth birthday 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To commend the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., upon the celebration of his one hundredth 3 birthday. 4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate the Reverend Ernest 5Jackson, Sr., upon the historic occasion of the celebration of his one hundredth birthday; and 6 WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson was born on April 26, 1916, in Yazoo County, 7Mississippi, to the late Johnny and Daisy Mills Jackson; he is the eldest of ten children and 8the only surviving sibling; and 9 WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson was married to the late Doris Mae Gaines Jackson 10for sixty-five years; he is a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great- 11grandfather, and great-great-great-grandfather; and 12 WHEREAS, he received his schooling in the public school system in Yazoo County 13and Canton, Mississippi; and 14 WHEREAS, he served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II; 15after his tour in the United States Navy, he received certificates in plumbing and carpentry 16from the Booker T. Washington School of Apprentice in New Orleans; and 17 WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson has taught Bible study in his home and has dedicated 18his time as the neighborhood barber, plumber, and handyman; and 19 WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson was baptized at an early age and is the longest living 20founding member of Nineveh Baptist Church; he served as a member of the choir, a deacon, 21a minister, a pastor, an assistant pastor, and is presently the assistant pastor emeritus; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 16RS-3286 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 92 1 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, 2and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like the 3Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., an exceptional man and an inspiration to all; and 4 WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson merits a special measure of commendation for the 5tremendous honor that he brings to the state of Louisiana and all who know and love him. 6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 7commend the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., upon the historic occasion of his one hundredth 8birthday; does hereby record for posterity the extraordinary life he has lived in the century 9since his birth; and does hereby extend to him every good wish for health and happiness in 10the years to come. 11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 12to the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr. DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
