HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 92
BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLMOTT AND SENATOR GARY SMI TH
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., upon the celebration of his one hundredth
birthday.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate the Reverend Ernest
Jackson, Sr., upon the historic occasion of the celebration of his one hundredth birthday; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson was born on April 26, 1916, in Yazoo County,
Mississippi, to the late Johnny and Daisy Mills Jackson; he is the eldest of ten children and
the only surviving sibling; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson was married to the late Doris Mae Gaines Jackson
for sixty-five years; he is a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-
grandfather, and great-great-great-grandfather; and
WHEREAS, he received his schooling in the public school system in Yazoo County
and Canton, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, he served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II;
after his tour in the United States Navy, he received certificates in plumbing and carpentry
from the Booker T. Washington School of Apprentice in New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson has taught Bible study in his home and has dedicated
his time as the neighborhood barber, plumber, and handyman; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson was baptized at an early age and is the longest living
founding member of Nineveh Baptist Church; he served as a member of the choir, a deacon,
a minister, a pastor, an assistant pastor, and is presently the assistant pastor emeritus; and

WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like the
Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., an exceptional man and an inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson merits a special measure of commendation for the
tremendous honor that he brings to the state of Louisiana and all who know and love him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr., upon the historic occasion of his one hundredth
birthday; does hereby record for posterity the extraordinary life he has lived in the century
since his birth; and does hereby extend to him every good wish for health and happiness in
the years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Reverend Ernest Jackson, Sr.
