HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 132

A RESOLUTION
To commend Alexander Young of Southeastern Louisiana University, the 2015-2016
Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year.
WHEREAS, Southeastern Louisiana University senior Alexander "Alex" Young, a
native of Nashville, Tennessee, became the Lions' first NCAA Division I national champion
and earned first-team All America honors in the weight throw at the March 11, 2016,
championships with a school record and Birmingham, Alabama, CrossPlex record of
seventy-eight feet, one inch; and
WHEREAS, specialized training from head coach Sean Brady and throwing coach
Amin Nikfar contributed to Alex Young's ability to record nine wins on the season and to
finish third or higher in every meet in which he competed; he was named to the All-
Southland Conference first team after he won the weight throw and the shot put at the
conference championship; in the weight throw, Alex broke his own meet record; and
WHEREAS, Alex Young becomes the third Southeastern Louisiana University track
and field and cross country Lion to earn the title of Southland Conference Men's Indoor
Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year, joining Henry Rop and Cory Roberts; and
WHEREAS, academic achievement is part of the amazing resumé of Alex Young;
he earned a 3.81 grade point average in his scholastic field of fitness and human performance
and made the Southeastern Louisiana University President's List in the fall of 2015, the
university Honor Roll in the summer of 2015, and the Southland Conference Commissioner's
Honor Roll in the spring of 2015; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald Alexander Young for the student athlete of the year
honor awarded to him in track and field by the Southland Conference; to recognize his off
the field achievements in the classroom; and to salute this young man for all of his athletic
and academic accomplishments.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Alexander Young upon being named the
2015-2016 Southland Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year
and does hereby express best hopes and wishes for a bright future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Alexander Young.
