ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 136 BY REPRESENTATIVE JACKSON A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Virginia Ireland of Bastrop upon her one hundredth birthday. WHEREAS, attainment to the rank of centenarian is indeed rare, and on May 26, 2016, Virginia Ireland joined this exclusive club; and WHEREAS, Virginia was born May 26, 1916, in Bienville, Louisiana; during World War II, she was a registered nurse with a specialty in public health; and WHEREAS, Virginia married Garland Ireland; to this union, one son, LeVoe Ireland, was born; and WHEREAS, after the war ended, Virginia and Garland moved to Bastrop; Garland opened Ireland's Jewelry and Virginia worked as a registered nurse anesthetist; and WHEREAS, upon her retirement from nursing, Virginia Ireland earned the equivalent of an associate degree as a bridal consultant, which enabled the family store to offer broader selections of china, sterling flatware, crystal, and all other accoutrements necessary for brides; and WHEREAS, Virginia and Garland retired from the jewelry store in 1988 but Virginia remained active at First Baptist Church in Bastrop, where she has held membership since the early 1950s; and WHEREAS, Virginia Ireland's personal fitness trainer, Lance Rogers, has kept her in shape for more than twenty years with up to three workouts per week, and this remarkable lady is pleased to join the rarified set of proud Louisiana centenarians. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 136 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Virginia Ireland upon the happy occasion of her one hundredth birthday and does hereby express best thoughts and prayers for continued good health and many more birthdays to come.
