ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 144 BY REPRESENTATIVE DUSTIN MILLER A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Joshua J. Pitre of Opelousas. WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the passing on May 4, 2016, of Joshua J. Pitre, a native of Plaisance and a resident of Opelousas; and WHEREAS, born June 27, 1940, to Ogden and Selina White Pitre, Joshua graduated from Plaisance High School in the class of 1959; after completing a bachelor of science degree in political science at Southern University, Mr. Pitre enrolled in and graduated from Southern University Law Center; and WHEREAS, Joshua Pitre answered the call of duty to his country; he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged; and WHEREAS, Joshua Pitre met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Darjean, and to this union, Kenyetta, Joshua J. Jr., Alex Rashead, and Ogden Pitre were born; he was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pitre practiced law in Opelousas for more than forty-five years, worked with the NAACP for more than fifty years, and was elected as the first African American on the St. Landry School Board and was its first president of color; and WHEREAS, the life of Joshua Pitre was filled with love, faith, service, and dedication to mankind, and the legacy he leaves will forever be cherished in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Joshua J. Pitre and does hereby extend best thoughts and hopes for peace and comfort.
