HLS 16RS-4006 ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 152 BY REPRESENTATIVE HODGES CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Armond John Lombas, Jr. 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Armond John 3 Lombas, Jr. 4 WHEREAS, Armond John Lombas, Jr., was born in New Orleans on May 26, 1940; 5and 6 WHEREAS, Armond Lombas, Jr., graduated from St. Aloysius High School in New 7Orleans in 1958 and enlisted in the United States Army; in service to his country, Armond 8Lombas, Jr., rose to the rank of sergeant; and 9 WHEREAS, the Lombas family lived in the Greater New Orleans area until they 10were displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and Armond Lombas, Jr., moved to 11Shreveport; and 12 WHEREAS, upon his retirement from a robust career spanning three decades in 13designing, installing, and servicing commercial kitchen suppression systems and portable 14fire extinguishers, Armond Lombas, Jr., brought his vast experience to the Louisiana office 15of state fire marshal in May 2006, where he served as an investigator in the licensing and 16special services divisions until his death on April 23, 2016, at the age of seventy-five; and 17 WHEREAS, Armond Lombas, Jr., vigorously investigated complaints against 18contractors within the life safety and property protection industries; he ensured that 19contractors had the proper equipment and training to install systems designed to protect 20Louisiana's citizens and visitors and commercial properties from loss; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 16RS-4006 ENROLLED HR NO. 152 1 WHEREAS, Armond Lombas, Jr., used his knowledge, experience, and tenacity to 2establish compliance with applicable laws affecting regulated companies and employees; and 3 WHEREAS, his dedication to duty quickly propelled Armond Lombas, Jr., to 4become the foremost expert of the office of state fire marshal involving fire protection 5systems; Mr. Lombas' expertise was in great demand for consultation and training, and he 6taught the proper methods of system inspection, garnering him the respect of fire inspectors 7and industry representatives across Louisiana; and 8 WHEREAS, in recognition of his invaluable experience, Armond Lombas, Jr., was 9selected to serve on the prestigious committee for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection 10of Commercial Cooking Operations of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 96); 11throughout his health battle with cancer, Mr. Lombas continued to share his expertise in the 12formulation of national standards with which all commercial restaurant fire systems must 13comply; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Lombas's amazing work ethic and passion for protecting lives from 15the tragic consequences of fire were constantly displayed throughout his time in the office 16of state fire marshal: he assisted in drafting the agency's administrative fire protection rules 17and spoke at numerous public education events to hundreds of children and adults. 18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the members of the House of Representatives 19of the Louisiana State Legislature do hereby acknowledge, affirm, and express their deepest 20appreciation for the professional and selfless service provided by Armond John Lombas, Jr., 21on behalf of the citizens of Louisiana and do hereby express sincere condolences upon the 22death of this dedicated public servant. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 24to the family of Armond John Lombas, Jr. DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
