ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 164 BY REPRESENTATIVE CHAD BROWN A RESOLUTION To commend the University Laboratory School boys' basketball team upon winning the Class 3A state championship. WHEREAS, the University Laboratory School boy's basketball team has ascended to a place of prominence in the ranks of Louisiana high school basketball by winning the Class 3A state championship title in three consecutive years; and WHEREAS, in 2016, the Cubs basketball season was nothing short of sensational and finished with the Cubs defeating Wossman High School by a final score of 98-65 at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the 2016 championship title was earned with the incredible success of the team's coaching staff, under head coach Joe Spencer, and everyone who participated in the championship game; and WHEREAS, the Cubs were led by the title game's most valuable player, Jalen Johnson, who finished with a team-high of twenty-eight points on nine-of-twelve shooting; Wayde Sims who added twenty-six points and a game-high twelve rebounds; Marshall Graves who had seventeen assists in two games at the tournament, tying a tournament record; and Spencer Mays who scored twelve points; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana House of Representatives wishes to recognize the state champion Cubs and commends the entire team for the ability they have displayed at this difficult level of competition for three consecutive years and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while achieving this high honor for their school and local community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the University High boys' basketball team Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 164 ENROLLED upon its memorable and historic victory in the 2016 Class 3A state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this prestigious basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional achievements and prepare for continued success in the future.
