ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 180 BY REPRESENTATIVE JACKSON A RESOLUTION To designate Thursday, May 26, 2016, as Girl Scouts of the United States of America Day at the state capitol and to recognize the one hundred fourth anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouting. WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the United States of America is the world's largest and most preeminent organization dedicated solely to all girls everywhere and to helping girls build character and gain skills for success in the real world; and WHEREAS, 2016 marks the centennial of the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting; the award represents excellence and leadership for girls worldwide; girls who pursue the award aspire to transform an idea and vision for change into an actionable plan with far reaching results; and WHEREAS, the young women in Louisiana who have earned the 2016 Girl Scout Gold Award and will advance to become community leaders are Kelsey Anderson from Leesville, Maya Shelby from Ball, Sarah Wright from Crowley, Abbie McMillon from Mooringsport, Miranda Weddleton from Mooringsport, Gabrielle Chapman from Ville Platte, Victoria Murphy from Franklinton, Sarah Taylor from Bush, Brianna Anderson from Norco, and Allison Smith from Geismar; and WHEREAS, in 2015-2016, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana–Pines to the Gulf and Girl Scouts Louisiana East served more than twenty-two thousand girls in six program levels; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize and commend the Girl Scouts of Louisiana–Pines to the Gulf and Girl Scouts of Louisiana East for serving girls in Louisiana through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which helps girls develop a solid foundation in leadership through core programs around science, technology, engineering, math, environmental stewardship, healthy living, financial literacy, and global citizenship; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 180 ENROLLED WHEREAS, throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has welcomed girls and women from every background as members and has instilled them with courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place; and WHEREAS, the Girl Scout program is based on leadership development, discovering a strong sense of self and positive values, connecting with others to build healthy relationships and advance diversity in a multicultural world, and taking action to meet community needs; and WHEREAS, during the past one hundred four years, over fifty-five million American women have participated in Girl Scouting, and this enduring tradition continues to strengthen individual communities and our society as a whole. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Thursday, May 26, 2016, as Girl Scouts of the United States of America Day at the state capitol and recognize the one hundred fourth anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouting; does hereby commend the organization for its many contributions and continued dedication to girls in the United States of America and around the world; and does hereby welcome members of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America as they visit the capitol on this special and memorable occasion. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, to Girl Scouts of Louisiana–Pines to the Gulf, and to Girl Scouts of Louisiana East.
