ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 183 BY REPRESENTATIVE JONES A RESOLUTION To recognize Wednesday, May 25, 2016, as Retired State Employees Association Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, the Retired State Employees Association of Louisiana (RSEA) was organized and established as a nonprofit association on November 14, 1966; and WHEREAS, the RSEA is an independent, membership-driven organization representing men and women, and their families, who have retired or will retire from employment with the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the mission of the RSEA is to advance the quality of life of current and future retired state employees who have given of their talents to the state of Louisiana through public employment; and WHEREAS, the objective of the RSEA is to make a significant difference in the lives and well-being of current and future retirees by protecting retirement and health benefits; securing cost-of-living adjustments; providing access to other needed benefits; and keeping members informed through newsletters, websites, annual chapter meetings, and the statewide annual conference; and WHEREAS, the RSEA takes an active leadership role in the passage of legislation to effectuate cost-of-living adjustments for retirees, lobbies to change Social Security laws, and joins with the Louisiana State Employees Retirement System and the office of group benefits to support the passage of legislation that benefits retirees and active state employees; and WHEREAS, the RSEA is open to membership for any retired or active employee of the state retirement systems who wants to work for the betterment of our members and the state as a whole; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 183 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the RSEA is committed to maintaining the future of our state retirement systems; and WHEREAS, the first incorporators and founders of RSEA, including Curtis Breaux, P.J. Becker, W.O.W Pankey, Mrs. John F. Waymouth, Mrs. William S. Day, Sr., Louis Duclos, Eunice Chandler, William B. Myrick, Sr., Ouida Smith, and Frank E. Haight, have made significant contributions to the employees and retirees of the state of Louisiana; and WHEREAS, during 2016, the RSEA will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 25, 2016, as Retired Employees Association Day at the state capitol, and commends the members of the RSEA for their valuable service to the state of Louisiana on the year of the association's fiftieth anniversary.
