HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 220

A RESOLUTION
To commend Lieutenant Douglas Foreman of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office upon
being the recipient of the 2016 Deputy Sheriff of the Year Award from the Louisiana
Sheriffs' Association.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association presents the Deputy Sheriff of the
Year Award to recognize a deputy sheriff who has shown unusual initiative and imagination
in the performance of his duty and has engaged in activities that improve the quality of life
in his community; and
WHEREAS, Douglas Foreman volunteered as a reserve deputy with the Lafourche
Parish Sheriff's Office in 1985, and three years later, became a full-time deputy sheriff; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Foreman has held various positions in the patrol division
and the investigations division; because of his outstanding work ethic, he was promoted to
sergeant in both divisions; he attained the rank of lieutenant and was appointed deputy
commander of the patrol division; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Foreman has also served as special administrative assistant
to the sheriff and has proudly represented the sheriff's office as a member of the Honor
Guard and Agency Recruitment Team; he is a member of the Police Unity Tour, which
honors fallen officers; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Foreman annually participates in the "Lafourche leg" of the
Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics; and
WHEREAS, as supervisor of the Traffic Enforcement Section, which includes
motorcycle patrol, bicycle patrol, and school traffic guards, Lieutenant Foreman has actively
promoted proper child restraint and seat belt usage since 2013 by conducting weekly safety
checkpoints; he also has coordinated extra patrols and DWI checkpoints to target impaired
drivers; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Foreman is the quintessential public servant, a deputy who
strives for excellence and professionalism in his work and expects the same from those he
supervises; a deputy who looks for ways to make things easier for his fellow deputies, often
taking on additional responsibilities and extra work; and, whether he is ministering to
inmates at the parish jail or encouraging other deputies in their work or physical fitness,
Lieutenant Foreman is a deputy whose mission is to lift the spirits of those around him; and
WHEREAS, throughout his law enforcement career, Lieutenant Douglas Foreman
has gone above and beyond in service to the public and has received numerous honors,
including the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office highest honor–the Sheriff Star in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Douglas Foreman merits the highest commendation and
sincere congratulations for his exemplary public service and for his outstanding
contributions to the state of Louisiana and its citizens.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Lieutenant Douglas
Foreman of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office on being the recipient of the 2016 Deputy
Sheriff of the Year Award from the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association; does hereby recognize
and record for posterity his tireless dedication and service to the citizens of Lafourche Parish
and the state of Louisiana; and does hereby extend to him best wishes for continued success
and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Lieutenant Douglas Foreman.
