ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 23 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARPENTER A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of Representatives has learned of the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell on Tuesday, March 15, 2016; and WHEREAS, Lucy Carpenter Cornwell was a native of Natchitoches and a resident of Grambling; and WHEREAS, she graduated from Grambling State University; she obtained a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and a degree in paralegal studies; and WHEREAS, for thirty-four years, Ms. Cornwell served as the librarian at Grambling State University; she also taught in the Lincoln Parish School System; and WHEREAS, she was the loving wife of James Milton Cornwell for fifty-two years; she was the mother of Charlotte Cornwell Winnfield and a grandmother of four; and WHEREAS, although the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell has left a tremendous void in her family and community, her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lucy Carpenter Cornwell; does hereby record for posterity her singular contributions and outstanding achievements; and does hereby express enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this distinguished individual will forever bring to her family, friends, community, and state.
