HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 232
BY REPRESENTATIVE COX
A RESOLUTION
To commend Tee Don Landry upon his induction into the 2016 Louisiana Folklife Center
Hall of Master Folk Artists.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Folklife Center is an agency of Northwestern State
University of Louisiana and was established in 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Folklife Center serves as an archival repository for many folklife
materials; and
WHEREAS, Tee Don Landry has been inducted into the 2016 Louisiana Folklife
Center Hall of Master Folk Artists; a premier player and maker of the frottoir, Mr. Landry
makes rubboards in the tradition of his father, Willie Landry, the original craftsman of the
first rubboard made for Cleveland Chenier in 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Key of Z Rubboards are the only washboards in the Smithsonian
Institute in Washington, D.C., and in many museums around the world; these rubboards have
been featured in films and documentaries and are known for their high quality and one-of-a-
kind sound; and
WHEREAS, Tee Don Landry has made rubboards for ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Rihanna,
Harry Connick, Jr., Elvin Bishop, Rockin' Dopsie, and former United States Senator John
Breaux; and
WHEREAS, Tee Don Landry merits a special measure of commendation upon his
induction into the 2016 Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Tee Don Landry upon his induction into the
2016 Louisiana Folklife Center Hall of Master Folk Artists and does hereby extend to him
every good wish for continued success, prosperity, and happiness in the future.
