HLS 16RS-1803 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 36 BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH COMMENDATIONS: Commends Christian Bible College 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend Christian Bible College. 3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Christian Bible College as its unique 4history is recognized; and 5 WHEREAS, the idea for this Christian school originated with Brother Jasper Roper's 6concern for Christian education in the Baton Rouge area; and 7 WHEREAS, Brother Roper worked tirelessly with Dr. Arthur P. Clay, the dean of 8Christian Bible College of Louisiana, and Dr. H.B. Williams, the pastor of New Light 9Missionary Baptist Church, to establish Christian Bible College of Louisiana, Baton Rouge 10extension; and 11 WHEREAS, the original instructors for Christian Bible College of Louisiana, Baton 12Rouge extension, were Dr. Arthur P. Clay, Dr. G.R. Washington, Dr. B.J. Robinson, Dr. E.C. 13Gumms, and Dr. Henry Maxwell; and 14 WHEREAS, classes were held at the New Light Baptist Church in Baton Rouge for 15approximately two years; graduation services and other major services took place in New 16Orleans; and 17 WHEREAS, in its second year of operation, Reverend Jasper Roper and Dr. H.B. 18Williams were added to the faculty and the school relocated to Gethsemane Baptist Church 19in Baton Rouge; and 20 WHEREAS, in 1976, the school was reorganized from an extension school to a self- 21supporting organization; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 16RS-1803 ORIGINAL HR NO. 36 1 WHEREAS, in 1985, the school moved to its current home, 720 South Boulevard; 2and 3 WHEREAS, as the school continued to grow and prosper, more people were added 4to its faculty and staff; and 5 WHEREAS, Christian Bible College merits a special measure of commendation for 6the deep sense of pride and honor that it has brought to Baton Rouge and to the state of 7Louisiana. 8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Christian Bible College and does hereby 10recognize and record for posterity its unique history. 11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 12to Jasper Roper, Jr., president of Christian Bible College.
