RÉSUMÉ DIGEST ACT 173 (SB 261) 2016 Regular Session Luneau Prior law authorized any parish by formal resolution of its governing authority to establish, maintain, and operate game and fish preserves in the parish. New law clarifies that a preserve may be upon lands or water bodies wholly locate within the parish. New law authorizes two or more parish governing authorities, by separate formal resolutions, to establish, maintain, and operate game and fish preserves composed of contiguous lands or waterbodies shared by the parishes. Requires that all the parish governing authorities adopt the formal resolution for the game and fish preserve to become effective. Prior law authorized the governing authority of a parish to appoint a commission to regulate and control the preserve. Provided that the commission be composed of citizens and taxpayers of the parish, whose term will be concurrent with that of the parish governing authority making the appointment and that members serve without compensation. New law provides for establishment, by two or more parish governing authorities, of a game and fish preserve commission. Provides that each parish governing authority appoint members to the commission composed of citizens and taxpayers from that parish and that the members serve without compensation for a term concurrent with that of the governing authority making the appointment. Requires each parish to have an equal number of commission members unless some other composition is adopted by formal resolution adopted by all the parish governing authorities. New law retains present authority of a commission to make rules and regulations for the government, regulation, and control of the preserve and for the conservation, protection, and propagation of game and fish in the preserve, provided that these rules and regulations are approved, adopted, and promulgated by the La. Wildlife and Fisheries Commission Effective August 1, 2016. (Amends R.S. 56:721 and 722(A))
