SENATE BILL NO. 62

MOTOR VEHICLES.  Provides for parking in residential areas. (8/1/16)
1	AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 32:144(C) and (D), relative to parking; to provide for parking in a residence
3 district; and to provide for related matters.
4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
5 Section 1.  R.S. 32:144(C) and (D) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 
6 ยง144.  Additional parking regulations

8	C.  The provisions of Subsection A of this Section shall not apply to any
9 vehicle standing or parked on a highway or street in a residence district as
10 defined in R.S. 32:1(56).
11	D.  This Section shall supercede any conflicting provisions of R.S. 32:41
12 and 42 and any local ordinance or regulation adopted pursuant thereto or
13 pursuant to any other authority.

Present law requires every vehicle standing or parked on a highway where there are adjacent
curbs to stand or park with the right-hand wheels of such vehicle parallel to and within
eighteen inches of the right-hand curb.
Present law defines "residence district" as the territory contiguous to a highway not
comprising a business district, when the frontage on such a highway for a distance of three
hundred feet or more is mainly occupied by dwellings or by dwellings and buildings in use
for business.
Proposed law provides that present law does not apply in a residence district.
Proposed law provides that proposed law supercedes any conflicting provisions of present
law and any local ordinance or regulation adopted by any authority.
Effective August 1, 2016.
