SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 131

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Catholic High School of Baton Rouge football team
on winning the state championship.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend the Catholic High School football team upon winning the 2015 Division I
3 State Championship in Louisiana High School Athletic Association competition and
4 to congratulate the team and coaches on an exceptional season.
5 WHEREAS, on December 4, 2015, the Catholic High Bears earned the title of
6 Division I State Champions after defeating the Archbishop Rummel Raiders by a score of
7 31-28 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome
8 in New Orleans; and
9 WHEREAS, the championship win, a culmination of a remarkable journey for the
10 Bears, was the first football title in the school's 121-year history; and
11 WHEREAS, this thrilling victory, which was decided by a 34-yard field goal on the
12 final play of the game, provided the storybook finish to an incredible championship run in
13 which CHS had three come-from-behind wins against the top three seeds in its division; and
14 WHEREAS, in capturing the title, the 2015 Catholic High Bears displayed the
15 courage, determination, fortitude, and desire of every championship team, while always
16 upholding the principles of good sportsmanship; and
17 WHEREAS, under the tutelage of Head Coach Dale Weiner who was skillfully
18 assisted by the members of his coaching staff, Matthew Burmaster, Robert Conroy, Sanders

1 Davis, Gabe Fertitta, Deuce Harrison, Eric Held, Renaldo Thompson, Adam White, and
2 Caleb Williamson, the team was propelled to lofty heights; and
3 WHEREAS, by providing the leadership and motivational skills necessary to produce
4 a winning spirit and instilling confidence in each individual, the coaching staff molded these
5 talented athletes into a championship-caliber team; and
6 WHEREAS, during his 28th year of leadership, Coach Weiner, who has built an
7 orange and black legacy that will remain for generations to come, captured his 300th career
8 victory and became only the eighth coach in Louisiana High School football to reach the
9 300-win milestone; and
10 WHEREAS, from the first team meeting until the final moment of play, the Bears
11 lived both on and off the field by their mantra, "Believe it", never wavering in their belief
12 in themselves and each other, using it as the catalyst to become one cohesive unit; and
13 WHEREAS, never losing sight of their dream of winning the state football title, these
14 student athletes performed to their highest potential throughout the regular season and the
15 playoffs, and each member of the squad deserves special recognition for his contribution to
16 that triumphant effort and to the success of the Catholic High School football program; and
17 WHEREAS, the 2015 Catholic High Bears, Brandon Beale, Johnathan Benoit,
18 Johnathan Bernard, James Berrigan, Alex Bertrand, Andrew Bienvenue, Alex Van Biersel,
19 Ashton Blount, Blair Bogan, Colin Bonine, Brandt Boudreaux, Brogan Bourgeois,

5 committed to excellence; and
6 WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting that these extraordinary young men are recognized
7 for such an outstanding accomplishment that was earned through the finest expression of
8 teamwork, tenacity, and dedication to the sport of football and to each other.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10 commend and congratulate the Catholic High School football team on winning the LHSAA
11 Division I State Football Championship and does hereby recognize the tremendous sense of
12 honor and pride the team has brought to the school, its alumni, and community.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend
14 best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff involved with this outstanding football program
15 as they celebrate an exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to school
17 officials, Gene Tullier, school president; Lisa Harvey, principal; J. P. Kelly, athletic director;
18 and Dale Weiner, head football coach.
