2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 131 BY SENATORS COLOMB, BARROW AND CLAITOR AND REPRESENTATIVES STEVE CARTER, EDMONDS AND F OIL A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the football team of Catholic High School of Baton Rouge upon winning the 2015 Division I State Championship in Louisiana High School Athletic Association competition and to congratulate the team and coaches on an exceptional season. WHEREAS, on December 4, 2015, the Catholic High Bears earned the title of Division I State Champions after defeating the Archbishop Rummel Raiders by a score of 31-28 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans; and WHEREAS, the championship win, a culmination of a remarkable journey for the Bears, was the first football title in the school's 121-year history; and WHEREAS, this thrilling victory, which was decided by a 34-yard field goal on the final play of the game, provided the storybook finish to an incredible championship run in which Catholic High School had three come-from-behind wins against the top three seeds in its division; and WHEREAS, in capturing the title, the 2015 Catholic High Bears displayed the courage, determination, fortitude, and desire of every championship team, while always upholding the principles of good sportsmanship; and WHEREAS, under the tutelage of Head Coach Dale Weiner who was skillfully assisted by the members of his coaching staff, Matthew Burmaster, Robert Conroy, Sanders Davis, Gabe Fertitta, Deuce Harrison, Eric Held, Renaldo Thompson, Adam White, and Caleb Williamson, the team was propelled to lofty heights; and WHEREAS, by providing the leadership and motivational skills necessary to produce a winning spirit and instilling confidence in each individual, the coaching staff molded these Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 131 ENROLLED talented athletes into a championship-caliber team; and WHEREAS, during his 28th year of leadership, Coach Weiner, who has built an orange and black legacy that will remain for generations to come, captured his 300th career victory and became only the eighth coach in Louisiana prep football history to reach the 300-win milestone; and WHEREAS, from the first team meeting until the final moment of play, the Bears lived both on and off the field by their mantra, "Believe it", never wavering in their belief in themselves and each other; and WHEREAS, never losing sight of their dream of winning the state football title, these student athletes performed to their highest potential throughout the regular season and the playoffs, and each member of the squad deserves special recognition for his contribution to that triumphant effort and to the success of the Catholic High School football program; and WHEREAS, the 2015 Catholic High Bears, Brandon Beale, Johnathan Benoit, Johnathan Bernard, James Berrigan, Alex Bertrand, Andrew Bienvenue, Alex Van Biersel, Ashton Blount, Blair Bogan, Colin Bonine, Brandt Boudreaux, Brogan Bourgeois, Conner Bowen, Ian Brian, Noah Broussard, Paul Brown, Chris Cameron, Diego Carrera, Lance Chaisson, Joe Clark, Marlon Coates, Grant Conway, Zach Crawford, Kam Cummings, Jordan Davenport, Blake Davis, James Delee, Denver Dennison, Jack Ducote, Kyle Dugas, Patrick Dunn, Sheldon Dyer, Chris Dyess, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Brandon Fairbanks, Brett Fontaine, Parker Fontenot, Grant Gallegos, Andrew Gauthier, Connor Gauthier, John Eric Ginn, Beau Griffon, Gary Gudiel, Daniel Guilbeau, Lawrence Hamilton, Payton Harris, Brady Hebert, Brian Herry, Austan Hood, Kale Howard, Jenaro James, Branson Johnson, Tarick Johnson, Vernon Langley, Blane Lemaire, Kole Lemoine, London Lewis, Jacob Little, Mason Mann, Jacob Martin, Tyler Mason, Markham McKnight, Justin McNeely, Patrick Mensah, Ben Miles, Joseph Mitchell, Aaron Moffitt, Hunter Monson, Timothy Morgan, Isaac Nosacka, Zach Olsen, Jordan Oubre, Tyrone Payne, Chase Priest, Dylan Ramsey, Connor Rawls, D. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Catholic High School football team on winning the LHSAA Division I State Football Championship and does hereby recognize the tremendous sense of honor and pride the team has brought to the school, its alumni, and community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff involved with this outstanding football program as they celebrate an exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to school officials, Gene Tullier, school president; Lisa Harvey, principal; J. P.
