2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 18 BY SENATOR ERDEY AND REPRESENTATI VE MACK A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Anthony Sziber. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana learned of the death of Anthony Sziber on March 3, 2016, at the age of one hundred one; and WHEREAS, Anthony Sziber, known as "Mr. Tony", was born on August 25, 1914, in Albany, Louisiana, to John and Elizabeth Tina Sziber; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sziber was a member of the Hungarian Settlement in Albany and was honored as the oldest member; and WHEREAS, in 1941, he worked at Sharp Station, then he worked at Delta Tank in Baton Rouge, and at a shipyard in New Orleans; in 1946, he worked for Arthur Rogers Garage in Albany for about a year; and WHEREAS, a lifelong master mechanic, he opened Sziber Garage in Albany; and WHEREAS, in 1955, he married Pearl Watts and a son, Malcolm Watts was born from their union; they built a home in Albany; and in 1956, he built a garage in Albany and moved there; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sziber retired at sixty-two and got a job with Charlie Watts working in the field raising vegetables; and WHEREAS, he is survived by two sons, Alton Sziber Sr. and Malcom Watts; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Sziber Conrad, Alton Tony Sziber Jr., J.C. Watts, and Shonia Watts Martin; six great-grandchildren, Chris, Alex, Chuckie, Katie, Darren, and Hunter; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Sziber; his wife, Pearl Wheat Sziber; two brothers, John and Frank Sziber; four sisters, Julia Sziber Helg, Rosie Sziber Jason, Betty Sziber Covington, and Mary Sziber; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sziber enjoyed sharing his work, fishing, and gardening with his family and friends; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 18 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the death of Anthony Sziber has left a substantial void in the Livingston community and a sense of loss in the citizens whose lives he touched, and his memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all those who knew and loved this remarkable gentleman. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Anthony Sziber, records for posterity his outstanding achievements, and extends enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he will forever bring to the Livingston community, the state of Louisiana, and the United States of America.
