2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 51 BY SENATOR LONG A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend the Natchitoches Central High School boys basketball team on winning the 2016 Class 5A state championship. WHEREAS, Natchitoches Central High School has ended the 2016 basketball season yet again as a Louisiana sports phenomenon after winning their second Class 5A state championship with a fifty-four to fifty-two win against the Scotlandville Hornets on March 11, 2016; and WHEREAS, the Chiefs were previously named Class 5A state champions in 2014; and WHEREAS, the team, under the leadership of Coach Micah Coleman, was able to earn this title despite the fact that their hometown was reeling from one of the worst floods in Louisiana history; and WHEREAS, despite the natural disaster, the dedicated team and thousands of their supporters braved the weather to make the four-hour trip for the game in the Burton Arena in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, their focus and agility on the court as well as the dedication and inspiration they displayed during a crisis serves as the finest example of true sportsmanship; and WHEREAS, their 2016 Class 5A state championship will long be remembered as one of the finest in Louisiana high school sports history. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the 2016 Natchitoches Central High School boys basketball team for winning the 2016 Class 5A state championship and for serving as an inspiration to their fellow Louisianians during a natural disaster.
