SLS 16RS-235 ORIGINAL 2016 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 57 BY SENATORS GARY SMITH, ALLAIN, BROWN AND CHABERT COMMENDATIONS. Commends Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court Vernon Rodrigue on his retirement. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Vernon Rodrigue upon his retirement as the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court. 3 WHEREAS, Vernon Rodrigue served Lafourche Parish as an employee of the clerk 4 of court's office for over fifty years, beginning in 1960 and ending in 2016, including six 5 consecutive terms as clerk of court; and 6 WHEREAS, Vernon Rodrigue was born in Choupic, Louisiana, to Valentine and 7 Laura Landry Rodrigue and graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1960; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigue was married to Theresa Cherry Rodrigue for forty-seven 9 wonderful years and the couple was blessed with three sons Dean, Thomas, and Todd, and 10 five beautiful grandchildren; and 11 WHEREAS, Vernon began working at the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court's Office 12 soon after graduating from high school in 1960, while his uncle Ambroise Landry was 13 serving as the Clerk; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigue began his employment with the Lafourche Parish Clerk 15 of Court's Office with the duty of making copies on a Photostat machine that took twenty 16 minutes to make a single copy, moving into receiving and filing documents and billing 17 before being named deputy clerk of court and minute clerk in 1968; and 18 WHEREAS, having served in many positions, in 1983, Vernon was appointed as the Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 57 SLS 16RS-235 ORIGINAL 1 chief deputy clerk of court and served in that position until 1989, when he was put in charge 2 of the mortgage department; and 3 WHEREAS, after being elected clerk of court for Lafourche Parish in the fall of 4 1991, Mr. Rodrigue oversaw the civil and criminal departments, jury selections, elections, 5 land and mortgage records; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigue, as clerk of court, is celebrated for creating a pleasant 7 working environment for his employees and keeping committed to his mantra that he and 8 his staff's main objective was to serve the public, not themselves; and 9 WHEREAS, his greatest accomplishment as the clerk of court was to fully 10 computerize the office and coordinate the scanning of every land record back to 1808; and 11 WHEREAS, with his return to private life, Vernon will spend more time with his 12 family, continue to be an active member of the community he loves and served for so many 13 years, attending every fair, festival and function, and carry on his music career that is nearly 14 as long as his tenure at the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court's Office. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 16 commend Vernon Rodrigue on his retirement following fifty-six years with the Lafourche 17 Parish Clerk of Court's Office, twenty-four of those years as the Lafourche Parish Clerk of 18 Court, and on his contributions and tireless service to the people of Lafourche Parish. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr. 20 Vernon Rodrigue of Thibodaux.
