2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 57 BY SENATORS GARY SMITH, ALLAIN, BROWN AND CHABERT A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Vernon Rodrigue upon his retirement as the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court. WHEREAS, Vernon Rodrigue served Lafourche Parish as an employee of the clerk of court's office for over fifty years, beginning in 1960 and ending in 2016, including six consecutive terms as clerk of court; and WHEREAS, Vernon Rodrigue was born in Choupic, Louisiana, to Valentine and Laura Landry Rodrigue and graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1960; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigue was married to Theresa Cherry Rodrigue for forty-seven wonderful years and the couple was blessed with three sons Dean, Thomas, and Todd, and five beautiful grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Vernon began working at the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court's Office soon after graduating from high school in 1960, while his uncle Ambroise Landry was serving as the Clerk; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigue began his employment with the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court's Office with the duty of making copies on a Photostat machine that took twenty minutes to make a single copy, moving into receiving and filing documents and billing before being named deputy clerk of court and minute clerk in 1968; and WHEREAS, having served in many positions, in 1983, Vernon was appointed as the chief deputy clerk of court and served in that position until 1989, when he was put in charge of the mortgage department; and WHEREAS, after being elected clerk of court for Lafourche Parish in the fall of 1991, Mr. Rodrigue oversaw the civil and criminal departments, jury selections, elections, land and mortgage records; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rodrigue, as clerk of court, is celebrated for creating a pleasant working environment for his employees and keeping committed to his mantra that he and his staff's main objective was to serve the public, not themselves; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 57 ENROLLED WHEREAS, his greatest accomplishment as the clerk of court was to fully computerize the office and coordinate the scanning of every land record back to 1808; and WHEREAS, with his return to private life, Vernon will spend more time with his family, continue to be an active member of the community he loves and served for so many years, attending every fair, festival and function, and carry on his music career that is nearly as long as his tenure at the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court's Office. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Vernon Rodrigue on his retirement following fifty-six years with the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court's Office, twenty-four of those years as the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court, and on his contributions and tireless service to the people of Lafourche Parish.
