2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 59 BY SENATORS LONG AND ALARIO A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend and congratulate the Chehardy family upon earning the Political Family of Officeholders Award. WHEREAS, over the generations, the Chehardy family of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, have proven themselves to be a group of dedicated public servants, always ready to help make the state a better place for all its citizens; and WHEREAS, this year, the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame has bestowed upon the Chehardy family the honor of the Political Family of Officeholders Award; and WHEREAS, the many years of public service began when the family patriarch, Lawrence A. Chehardy, became assessor of Jefferson Parish, serving in that capacity from 1956 until 1976 when he became a judge on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, where he served from 1979 until retirement in 1991; and WHEREAS, his son, Lawrence E. Chehardy, succeeded him as parish assessor and served a distinguished thirty-four years, until stepping down in 2010, and currently serves as the chairman of the Louisiana Tax Commission; and WHEREAS, his daughter, Susan Chehardy, was elected in 1992 as a judge of the 24th Judicial District Court and in 1999 took a seat on the bench of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, where she still serves; and WHEREAS, the Chehardy family has made a mark in the history of the state of Louisiana and has inspired its citizens by their dedication to public service. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Chehardy family upon earning the Political Family of Officeholders Award and does thank them for their selfless service to the people of this state.
