THOMPSON AND W ARD 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Jim Hightower on being named to the 2016 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talents worthy of being named to the hall
of fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Coach
Jim Hightower; and
WHEREAS, originally a California native, Jim Hightower played football for
Cal-Davis and worked for NASA in the 1960s, where he developed math and technical skills
to help shape his career as an educator and coach; and
WHEREAS, his coaching career began at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee, where he
led both the football and baseball teams to state championships; and
WHEREAS, he was appointed coach of St. Thomas More High School in Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, where he has become the second most winning coach in Louisiana
history, with three hundred and seventy-nine career victories and has never had a losing
season; and
WHEREAS, on the field he has generated twenty-seven straight playoffs at St.
Thomas More, in addition to thirteen district championships; and
WHEREAS, the successful coaching career of Jim Hightower has rightly earned him
a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Jim Hightower on being named to the 2016 Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame Induction Class.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Jim
Hightower.
