SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107

SENATE.  Designates the month of May as Foster Care Month.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate the month of May as Foster Care Month in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, every child deserves the safety, love, and well-being of a permanent
4 family and home; and
5 WHEREAS, the family, serving as the primary source of love, identity, self-esteem,
6 and support, is the very foundation of our communities; and
7 WHEREAS, in Louisiana there are more than eight thousand children and youth
8 served annually in foster care being provided with a safe, secure, and stable home along with
9 the compassion and love of a foster family; and
10 WHEREAS, all young people in foster care need a meaningful connection to a caring
11 adult who provides a supportive and lasting presence in their lives; and
12 WHEREAS, foster, kinship, and adoptive families play a vital role in helping
13 children and families heal and reconnect, thereby launching young people into successful
14 adulthood; and
15 WHEREAS, dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster children resulting in
16 a need for more foster families; and
17 WHEREAS, there are numerous individuals, both volunteer and professional, and
18 community and faith-based organizations, who work to increase public awareness of the

1 needs of children, in and leaving foster care, as well as the enduring and valuable
2 contribution of foster parents; and
3 WHEREAS, a new informal caucus - the Foster Care & Adoption Caucus - has been
4 created in the Louisiana Legislature to bring adoption and foster care issues to the forefront
5 of consciousness for legislators and policy makers. 
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
7 does hereby designate the month of May as Foster Care Month in Louisiana.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
9 Kim Carver of the Louisiana Institute of Children in Families, Judge Madeleine Landrieu,
10 and the secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services.
