2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107 BY SENATOR JOHNS A RESOLUTION To designate the month of May as Foster Care Month in Louisiana. WHEREAS, every child deserves the safety, love, and well-being of a permanent family and home; and WHEREAS, the family, serving as the primary source of love, identity, self-esteem, and support, is the very foundation of our communities; and WHEREAS, in Louisiana there are more than eight thousand children and youth served annually in foster care being provided with a safe, secure, and stable home along with the compassion and love of a foster family; and WHEREAS, all young people in foster care need a meaningful connection to a caring adult who provides a supportive and lasting presence in their lives; and WHEREAS, foster, kinship, and adoptive families play a vital role in helping children and families heal and reconnect, thereby launching young people into successful adulthood; and WHEREAS, dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster children resulting in a need for more foster families; and WHEREAS, there are numerous individuals, both volunteer and professional, and community and faith-based organizations, who work to increase public awareness of the needs of children, in and leaving foster care, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of foster parents; and WHEREAS, a new informal caucus - the Foster Care & Adoption Caucus - has been created in the Louisiana Legislature to bring adoption and foster care issues to the forefront of consciousness for legislators and policy makers. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate the month of May as Foster Care Month in Louisiana.
