A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the death of Shreveport
Police Officer Thomas Joseph LaValley, who was slain in the line of duty while answering
a call of suspicious activity on August 5, 2015, has been learned; and
WHEREAS, Officer LaValley, born on December 19, 1985, was a 2003 graduate of
St. Amant High School and a member of its wrestling team; and
WHEREAS, he graduated from Northwestern State University and worked at KTBS
Channel 3 as a videographer; and
WHEREAS, he developed an interest in law enforcement while covering crime
scenes and often helped protect female coworkers who were spooked at times by overeager
viewers; and
WHEREAS, Officer LaValley then attended the Shreveport Police Academy
graduating at the top of his class and served as an officer for four years; and
WHEREAS, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan,
naming his cat "Drew"; and
WHEREAS, Officer LaValley is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Ann LeBeau;
father, Joseph Thomas LaValley; brother, Alexander Paul LaValley; sisters, Kimberly Bessa
and her husband, Tyler, and Andrea Anderson and her husband, Kevin; maternal
grandmother, Helen B. LeBeau; niece, Emily Bessa; nephews, Tyler, Caleb, and Joshua
Bessa; and

WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eddie Paul
LeBeau, and paternal grandparents, Lillian and Thomas Joseph LaValley; and
WHEREAS, Thomas LaValley is a hero who demonstrated bravery, courage, and
devotion and will never be forgotten for his service and lighthearted, noncomplaining
disposition; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, our cities, and American society
depend in great measure on men like Officer Thomas LaValley.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend condolences upon the death of Shreveport Police Officer Thomas
LaValley, honors his life and accomplishments, and records for posterity his devotion to
duty and his sacrifice in defense of the citizens whose lives he protected.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
mother, Jacqueline Ann LeBeau, and his father, Joseph Thomas LaValley.
