2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 151 BY SENATOR GATTI A RESOLUTION To commend the Benton High School of Benton, Louisiana golf team on winning its fifth consecutive Division II state championship. WHEREAS, the Benton High golf team won its fifth consecutive state title despite losing three key golfers who participated in the previous championships and who graduated in 2015; and WHEREAS, members of the 2016 state championship golf team are Hayden White, David Cole, Colton Ryan, Phil Tran and Alex Acurio, all of whom contributed to the team victory and another successful golf season at Benton High School; and WHEREAS, with a younger group of primarily underclassmen, Coach Tim Cram challenged the younger golfers to bring home the school's fifth consecutive state title, an exceedingly difficult feat; and WHEREAS, Benton High golfer, Hayden White and Loranger High School's Kristofer Kerr tied for the lowest score at the end of the thirty-six hole event and remained tied through a seven-hole playoff which was eventually called for darkness, leaving the two young men tied for medalist honors and they were named co-champions; and WHEREAS, the Benton team shot a second round four-over-par two hundred ninety-two team total at The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette, Louisiana, winning over E.D. White High School from Thibodaux, Louisiana by fourteen strokes; and WHEREAS, Coach Cram stated that his golfers "played better today (the second day of the seventy-two hole event) than yesterday" and "they showed a lot of grit", as he expressed great pride in his players; and WHEREAS, Hayden White shot a three under par sixty-nine in the first round and began the second round with six birdies on the front nine, thus notching a five under par second round to finish the seventy-two holes at eight under par and tied for first place; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 151 ENROLLED WHEREAS, David Cole, a senior who ended his high school golf career with four state championship titles, and Colton Ryan tied for sixth at the end of thirty-six holes with Ryan finishing with a one over par seventy-three and Cole shooting a second round seventy-five; and WHEREAS, Phil Tran shot a second round seventy-seven and finished nineteenth with a two-day tally of five over par; and WHEREAS, Alex Acurio's scores did not contribute to the final team score, as only the top four scores are considered, it should be noted that he shot a one under par seventy-one on the final day, bettering his first round score by nine strokes; and WHEREAS, with exceptional concentration and a clear view of the eventual goal of another state golf championship, the 2016 Benton High School golf team brought home the fifth consecutive District II state championship for their team, their coach, and their school. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Benton High School golf team on winning its fifth consecutive Division II state championship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Coach Tim Cram, golf coach at Benton High School in Benton, Louisiana. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 2 of 2
