SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 22

SENATE.  Commends ExxonMobil and recognizes Monday, March 21, 2016, as
ExxonMobil Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend ExxonMobil and recognize Monday, March 21, 2016, as ExxonMobil Day at
3 the Louisiana State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride and gratitude that the Louisiana Senate commends
5 ExxonMobil for the contributions its operations have made to the economy of the state of
6 Louisiana and to the prosperity of its citizens; and
7 WHEREAS, as one of the top employers in the state of Louisiana, ExxonMobil has
8 more than eleven thousand employees, retirees, and contractors in Louisiana; ExxonMobil
9 has workers in nearly every corner of Louisiana, from the Haynesville Shale to the Baton
10 Rouge chemical plants to the deep water of the Gulf of Mexico; and
11 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery is the largest manufacturing
12 employer in Louisiana and the fourth largest refinery in the United States, and the Baton
13 Rouge Chemical Plant is the second largest manufacturing employer in the state with
14 ExxonMobil's Louisiana operations paying more than $4.1 billion in gross payroll wages to
15 nearly four thousand employees statewide over the past decade; and
16 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil's engineers, scientists, skilled workers, and support staff
17 in Louisiana have played crucial roles in shaping the energy and petrochemical industry for
18 more than a century with revolutionary research innovations and technological

1 breakthroughs; and
2 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil Louisiana operations pays approximately $125 million in
3 state and local taxes each year including nearly $19 million in property taxes in East Baton
4 Rouge Parish alone, and has paid more than $1 billion in state and local taxes over the past
5 ten years; and
6 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil and its thousands of employees and retirees take an active
7 role in the betterment of the surrounding communities throughout the state of Louisiana by
8 providing tens of thousands of volunteer hours annually to numerous nonprofit organizations
9 and local food banks as well as providing financial support to dozens of educational,
10 environmental, cultural, and humanitarian groups through charitable contributions and
11 matching grants including the donation of nearly $5 million each year to hundreds of civic,
12 community, and educational organizations; and
13 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil facilities in Louisiana are dedicated to operating in an
14 environmentally responsible manner and have been recognized for their efforts as a recipient
15 of numerous awards for their environmental leadership; and
16 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil is committed to continuous improvement in the safety of
17 its employees, contractors, and the community and its Louisiana facilities have been
18 recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for their voluntary
19 protection programs and safety performance; and
20 WHEREAS, ExxonMobil's facilities in Louisiana represent substantial long-term
21 investments and their operations retain existing jobs and attract new jobs, provide tax
22 revenue, spur economic growth, and help meet the world's growing energy needs; and
23 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities
24 and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon businesses like
25 ExxonMobil, which is taking on the world's toughest energy challenges.
26 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
27 does hereby commend ExxonMobil on more than a century of partnership and progress with
28 Louisiana and does hereby recognize Monday, March 21, 2016, as ExxonMobil Day at the
29 Louisiana State Capitol.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
