2016 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 85 BY SENATOR BARROW A RESOLUTION To recognize and acknowledge the efforts of the Probation and Parole Officers of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Youth Services, Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) and to designate July 17-23, 2016, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week. WHEREAS, supervision at the community level is an essential part of the Louisiana juvenile justice continuum of treatment; and WHEREAS, OJJ Probation and Parole Officers are responsible for supervising youth in the community while helping youth and families navigate the juvenile justice system; and WHEREAS, Probation and Parole Officers fulfill a vital role in public safety while coordinating educational, vocational, and treatment opportunities for youth to obtain skills necessary for a successful future in their communities; and WHEREAS, Probation and Parole Officers are the central point of contact, bridging the gap between facilities and field services through the direct intake process, cross-training and multi-disciplinary team staffings; and WHEREAS, Probation and Parole Officers work in very demanding and stressful conditions caring for a high risk population, face many challenges and put themselves at risk every day; and WHEREAS, Probation and Parole Officers work in partnership with community agencies and groups to promote prevention, intervention, and advocacy programs; and WHEREAS, Probation and Parole Officers are a true force for positive change in the lives of young people in their communities. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana that the efforts of the Probation and Parole Officers of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, Youth Services, Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) are hereby recognized and acknowledged and July 17-23, 2016 is hereby designated as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week.
