SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 89

A RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, April 27, 2016, as School Board Member and School
Superintendent Recognition Day in recognition of the services of local school board
members and local school superintendents throughout the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) strives daily to
achieve its mission of leadership, service, and support for local school boards; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents (LASS) strives
daily to realize its mission of promoting strong and professional educational leadership; and
WHEREAS, the LSBA and LASS recognize that a world-class education can be
attained for Louisiana's students only through meaningful and sincere collaboration; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's local school boards assist in determining local and
community goals for the education of approximately seven hundred thousand children in
pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's six hundred forty-three local school board members,
representing all sixty-nine school systems in Louisiana, act as advocates for public school
students as they work with administrators, teachers, and parents for the betterment of public
education; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's sixty-nine school superintendents work closely with school
boards and all educational stakeholders in the community for the overall betterment of public
education; and
WHEREAS, school board members and superintendents strive to provide the
resources necessary to meet the needs of all students, including those with special needs; and
WHEREAS, they also provide accountability to the public, communicate the needs
of the school district to the public, and convey to school administrators the public's
expectations for the schools; and

WHEREAS, the important contributions of locally elected school board members
and the leadership of school superintendents are valued and greatly appreciated by the
citizens of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Wednesday, April 27, 2016, as School Board Member and School
Superintendent Recognition Day in recognition of the services of local school board
members and local school superintendents throughout the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Louisiana citizens are urged and requested to
join the members of the Louisiana Senate in observance of the day and to work with local
school boards and school superintendents to improve the education of children in Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana School Boards Association and the Louisiana Association of School
Superintendents.
