SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9

A RESOLUTION
To commend the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its outstanding achievements
and to recognize March 14 through 18, 2016, as Louisiana Physical Therapy
Association Week.
WHEREAS, physical therapy is a physical medicine and rehabilitation speciality that
remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life for patients
through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention, which uses mechanical
force and movements; and
WHEREAS, the practice of physical therapy endeavors to enhance the physical
health and functional abilities of the people of Louisiana through the prevention, diagnosis,
and treatment of movement dysfunctions and neuromusculosketal conditions; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association adopted its first by-laws
in 1982 and, since its inception, has provided outstanding leadership for those eligible for
its membership of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students in Louisiana
who are pursuing careers in the practice of physical therapy; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association strives to expand its
membership among physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and students in these
areas of study in order to enhance participation in legislative policymaking to achieve greater
influence in health care delivery issues for the benefit of their patients; and
WHEREAS, the association has been instrumental in assisting its members to
provide the highest quality care available and the members of the association proudly
employ their skills in the best interest of their patients; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association proclaims in its mission
statement that it exists to optimize the health and quality of life of the people in Louisiana
by advancing the profession of physical therapy; and

WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has provided leadership to the physical
therapists and physical therapy assistants who practice in Louisiana by promoting key values
and behaviors that embrace professionalism; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association provides numerous
educational opportunities to meet the needs of students of physical therapy, clinicians, and
the society, at large; and
WHEREAS, with an aging population and an increasing emphasis on physical fitness
and health, the physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students engaged in the
study of these professions will play an ever increasingly significant part in improving health
outcomes and longevity for Louisiana citizens into the future.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its outstanding
achievements and does hereby recognize March 14 through 18, 2016, as Louisiana Physical
Therapy Association Week.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Physical Therapy Association.
