SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 94

A RESOLUTION
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences on the death of Lorelia Jean Henry.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana
learned of the death of Lorelia Jean Henry on April 17, 2016, at the age of eighty-four; and
WHEREAS, Lorelia Jean Henry was born on June 13, 1931, to Walter and
Bernadette Gallien Jean; and
WHEREAS, she was united in marriage to Eligha Henry on March 15, 1950, and five
children were born of their union; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Henry devoted her life to loving her family; and
WHEREAS, she was a very caring, loving wife and mother to all who knew her and
her home was always open to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Henry was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Roman Catholic
Church in Cankton, Louisiana, and a member of the Ladies Altar Society; and
WHEREAS, she is survived by three daughters, Barbara Singleton, Bernadette
Dominque, and Bridget Michelle Henry; eleven grandchildren, Brandy Singleton, LaKeisha
Singleton, Kalsha Simon, Oren Simon Jr., Melinda Simon, Melissa Simon, Alondra
Dominque, Elysa Dominque, Kami Perkins, Mallory Perkins, and Lainee Perkins; and eleven
great-grandchildren, Leander Guillory III, Larenze Guillory, Jazmine Dena Duplechain,
Oren Simon III, Draylin Simon, Ariel Simon, Areyonia Prejean, Alyciea Prejean, Jakori
Simon, Gabrielle Alfred, and Tamryn Simon; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and
Bernadette Gallien Jean; her husband, Eligha Henry; one daughter, Sheryl Simon; one infant
son; four brothers, Lester Jean, Edgar Jean, Sidney Jean, and Arthur Jean; and two sisters,
Orelia J. Leday and Irene J. McCarthy; and
WHEREAS, Lorelia Jean Henry, who was admired by all whose lives she touched,
leaves behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly missed; and

WHEREAS, with the death of Lorelia Jean Henry, Louisiana has lost one of its finest
citizens and her memory shall live forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved
her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lorelia Jean Henry,
and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that the memory of
this loving and caring lady will forever bring to her family, friends, community, and the state
of Louisiana.
